A Conversation with Martin Parr & David Hurn
Back in April 2017, Magnum photographer David Hurn gifted two collections of photographs to National Museum Wales; approximately 1500 of his own photographs that span his sixty-year career as a documentary photographer; and approximately 700 photographs from his private collection of ‘swaps’, compiled throughout the course of his career. These works will contribute to the programme of exhibitions in the Museum’s new photography gallery, opened to acclaim on 28th September 2017 with the current 'Swaps' exhibition which runs until 11th March 2018.
Fellow Magnum photographer, collector and photo book guru Martin Parr will join David Hurn in the impressive Reardon Theatre at the National Museum in Cardiff to discuss their shared passion for collecting photography and how their collections are being used to support and promote the preservation, research and appreciation of photography in the UK.
Opened in October 2017 in Bristol, The Martin Parr Foundation is a new centre for British photography and the works of Martin Parr. The foundation ‘supports and preserves the legacy of photographers who made, and continue to make, important work focused on the British Isles’.
This is a ticket-only event and, judging by the previous very enjoyable David Hurn talk in the Museum's Reardon Theatre, is sure to sell out fast. Tickets can be booked on Eventbrite here >
This is an evening of photography discussion not to be missed in Wales!
