Photographer and educator Ron McCormick reveals a unique and historically important body of work documenting the changes in the South Wales valleys through the decline of the coal mining industry through the 1970’s and 80’s.
This evocative series of photographs record the changing landscape, history and culture of the Valleys as the heritage of coal and steel was being gradually erased from the communal experience.
Having shown a small selection of this work previously at the now-closed Kickplate Gallery in Abertillery in September 2016, the larger space in Newport Museum & Art Gallery allows McCormick now share a more comprehensive collection from his unique archive - half of which have never been seen before.
