Suggestions on how to Swap
meet at one of the three photography festivals or their related events in Wales
meet in one of the indie photography galleries who will be staging their own photography exhibitions in October
if prints are A4 or smaller in size, consider exchanging by signed-for Royal Mail postage if you’re unable to meet in person
3. SWAP YOUR PRINTS
Having announced your prints being available for a possible swap; then
explore social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook the week before and throughout October 2021 for the tag #SwapsWales to see prints offered for swapping by other participants;
also keep an eye on the social media feeds of Ffoton along with several of the other photography galleries and festivals in Wales, as they will be actively re-sharing a variety of interesting #SwapsWales participant posts throughout October;
if you identify a print you’d like to swap with, make contact with the photographer and include a link to your own post on social media for them to view and consider your print offer;
feel free to also create a page on your own website showing the photograph of the 3 prints, the swap image and the tag #SwapsWales if you’d rather accept approaches to swap directly via your site or email;
if you agree a swap with another participant, arrange between yourselves how you’d like to exchange prints. If meeting in person, we would advise meeting during daytime hours and/or in a public place. Be sensible.
See opposite for a few obvious suggestions.enjoy the ride! Don’t be disheartened if there’s little or no interest in your prints or any offer you might make to swap, keep an eye on the #SwapsWales tag and observe what others are offering. You can always keep your prints or gift them to someone!
to be included in the Archive Box, participants are required to swap at least one of the two prints they’ve made available for swapping with another participating photographer by midnight on 31 October 2021.
exchange of prints is the sole responsibility of participants.
#SwapsWales is intended as a free, fun and creatively rewarding participatory project.
#SwapsWales
Archive Box*
As if swapping prints with other photographers whose work you admire wasn’t exciting enough, we’re hoping diverse participation in this project by photographers of all skill levels will encourage print swaps, and an interesting physical record of them beyond October 2021 in the form of a new Swaps Wales Archive Box.
By photographers curating their own work before considering how they then might present a single image in print form to others, we hope the project will reveal a range of creative work being created in and of Wales in 2021.
Participant Agreement Form
This covers details of prints donated to the Swaps Wales ‘21 project Archive Box and your participation in the #SwapsWales project.
Please read the Terms & Conditions below the form to take part. Thanks.
Terms & Conditions for Participants
Swaps Wales is a simple idea and intended to be a fun, participatory project open to all.
We hope those agreeing to participate will find it interesting, educational and enjoyable - it is NOT a competition!
The project is informal, has zero funding and any prints made are to be a free of charge (£0.00) exchange between participants.
Hence the reason for asking anyone wishing to take part to post an image of the three prints already produced, as evidence they exist and the intent by participants to swap up to two of them with others.
If you would like to sell prints of your photography - explore another route. #SwapsWales is not about making money.
Rather, it seeks to encourage anyone making photographs to look through and curate their work, select a single image they might consider of interest to others, and be prepared to mutually agree a swap of a print of that image for another.
So, with that in mind, here’s what we’d like you to consider and agree to before taking part in #SwapsWales, ‘the project’, and completing the Print information and Participant Agreement Form above…
The single photographic image, and three resulting prints I will offer of it, will be my own work and does not breach the Copyright of another party. Image and Copyright theft is illegal and bad for photography. I will be swapping an original photograph made by me.
By participating, I agree to make three duplicate prints of the same photograph and will be prepared to swap at least one of a maximum of two in return for two different prints offered by other photographers with whom I have mutually agreed a swap. I may choose to decline all offers and not swap any of my prints.
I understand at least one of my prints must be swapped with another participant if my third donation print is to be included in the #SwapsWales project Archive Box. I understand that all prints in the Archive Box are donated freely and I agree that my image may be exhibited in #SwapsWales group form at any time in the future. Copyright of my image remains with me and my print/image will not be licensed or sold to any third party. I agree to grant Ffoton and/or any official custodian (non-commercial) of the Archive Box a license to reproduce my image for the purposes of exhibition and promotion of the #SwapsWales Archive Box.
The two prints I will offer to swap with others and the third print I agree to donate to the project Archive Box will have zero cost attached and I have no expectation of payment for any part of my participation in the #SwapsWales project.
I understand and agree that my participation in #SwapsWales is entirely my own responsibility as are any costs incurred, in any way, in my taking part. I also understand and agree that Ffoton and its representatives will not be responsible in any way for my participation in the project, materials I produce for the project, and any manner or means I choose to adopt in swapping my prints or arranging delivery of my donation print for the project Archive Box.
