Photographer and former Picture Editor of The Guardian newspaper talks with Ffoton about the experiences and events that shaped his career as a working photojournalist.

Fresh in our minds from his recent BBC Four TV series Britain in Focus in which he delved into the history of photography in the UK, we grabbed time with Eamonn at the EYE International Photography Festival in late 2016 to record a great conversation.

Starting his career covering Boxing, we discuss Eamonn's move from Sports to News after his experience in 1985 at Heysel football stadium in Belgium covering Juventus against Liverpool where a disaster in the stands resulted in 39 supporters losing their lives. We also discuss the current landscape of photography and career prospects for new students looking to move into the medium professionally.

Recorded in Aberystwyth, 1st October 2016 at the EYE International Photography Festival where Eamonn introduced the Festival programme over 2 days.
